We need Clorox style wipes.  Thanks in advance, if you are able to send some in Monday.  We are trying our best to keep the germs down in our classroom!

Alex was so gracious!  He took time to sign things for each and every child, and was so kind to the kids!  (They LOVED having him visit!)

 

Math

We will learn strategies to subtract mixed fraction Monday and Tuesday, and review fraction skills the rest of the week.  Our goal is to test on addition and subtraction , and fractions as division problems on Friday.

Reading

We are focusing on text structure this week.  We'll work with some graphic organizers to help us understand these structures!

Writing

We will complete our non-fiction writing this week!  

Grammar

Commas, commas, and commas!  See Edmodo later today for a great powerpoint!  

 

Science

The rest of the grade will be testing on traits Wednesday, but we have a guidance lesson scheduled for that day.  I'm pushing our test back till Friday, and hope that if you are going to be out, you will let me know, and test early!  On Monday I'll make sure all our notes are posted on Edmodo, so you can fid everything in one place.

Do you have any changes to your emergency dismissal?

I am updating Emergency Early dismissal lists, and want to know how you are supposed to leave if we have a snow/weather emergency.  We filled out the last list in late July, and a lot has changed since then!  Is your dismissal form up to date? 

Have your parents email me regarding any changes to how you are to leave if we are dismissed early due to weather!

News about our Raffle!!!!  

Monday, at 10:52 am, WE ARE HAVING OUR RAFFLE!!!!  I've added  5 (FIVE!!!!) Hershey bars to the raffle, and numerous MYSTERY BAGS!  (Also, three socks- but they are clean. )   I can't wait to see the look on your faces when you see our cool raffle items!  Just like in the real-world, some people buy tickets, and get nothing.  Not everyone will be a winner, and three lucky people are bound to be excited when they get the "Extra" homework passes I'm giving as a prize, but for others it's going to be EPIC!!!

 

(I lied. There really isn't an "Extra" homework pass, but I bet you believed that for at least 3-8 seconds!!!!)

News about our Raffle!!!!  

We were supposed to have the raffle Monday, but because we helped the 1st graders run their mile, we ran out of time.  I don't want to leave this to a sub, so I'm planning to push back till Monday.  NOW, if you are willing to push back 5 days, I'm willing to sweeten the pot, by adding 5 (FIVE!!!!) Hershey bars to the raffle!  I can't wait to see the look on your faces when you see our cool raffle items!  It's going to be AWESOME!!!

The week of November 4...

What will we be doing in Class this Week?

Math:

This week we will viewing fractions addition!  We'll begin with a review of adding like denominators, and then we will add unlike denominators/

On Monday, we will get a new Spiral Review Sheet, and on Friday it is due.   (I had a few not turn these in last week.  If you did not turn in last week's sheet, please have it Monday!)

 

Reading:   We will review types of non-fiction texts, and learn about some new ones.  This week we will:  Study news articles,  generating a news article, and view blogs as a form of NF.

 

Writing: We have finished research, and will be writing our body paragraphs this week.  I'll model body paragraphs in class.  Feel free to type at school in the morning, at home, and whenever you finish work early in class.

 

WORDLY WISE-  We will finish section 2 by Wednesday, and Test on Section 2 Friday.

 

Social Studies: Test Wednesday over WWI   (Review Edmododo notes each day, and look for additional notes to be added.)

Followed by Science, and an introduction to inherited traits!
